The project presented in the temporary installation at the Triennale addresses the treatment and conversion of offshore oil platforms. It is a utopian project that nonetheless offers fascinating potential. The design aspects and interventions required for a disused oil platform are many, and intriguing, ranging from technical and engineering problems to ecological, structural, visual, environmental and decorative ones. 
The challenge of such a project lies in transforming a strictly techno-industrial site into a unique hospitality experience that brings the visitor into contact with the sea. 
The focal point of the project’s ‘narrative’ is the stratification, both conceptual and physical, of the platform; the touristic function is added by converting the industrial structure of the platform on horizontal levels parallel to the sea’s surface. The concept of layers is a concrete reference to the architecture and history of the platforms, which are essentially temporary artificial islands.

The collaboration with Eni has made it possible to develop and analyze these highly innovative design themes to be addressed in the near future with regard to the dismantling or conversion of platforms no longer in use. 
Eni has enabled us to conduct this preliminary analysis to inform the public about these issues, important in terms of both ecology and architecture.

The project presented here is an ideal concept of a converted platform-hotel, with a particular focus on the spaces that are most suggestive because of their proximity to the water and their vertical dimensions.

The installation at the Triennale is a snapshot of the actual project, a crystallized structure and form of the image of the platform. A ‘mask’ will cover a high-definition LED video wall, on which a film about the project will be screened. The enterprise of remodeling these platforms is extremely complex, but for this occasion it will be described in simplified form through a virtual interpretation of the industrial structure transformed into a residential and entertainment facility.
The project is recounted by way of a film along with many different but complementary media, from the freehand sketch of the structure’s profile to the most advanced high-definition video projection technology.
The video wall is a sort of artistic installation unto itself, which documents and interprets the project through films, images, drawings and texts.
