The best of Italian ceramic tiles will be on display at the Triennale in Milan, where seven Confindustria Ceramica member companies will present innovative urban design proposals devoted to sustainable living and the world of children.

Ceramic on a human scale, or rather on a child’s scale: this is Confindustria Ceramica’s aim with the new initiative entitled Ceramic Tiles of Italy Playground due to be launched at its annual appointment with the Fuori Salone del Mobile to be held in the Triennale in Milan from 14 to 19 April.

Italian ceramic tiles achieve excellent performance and functionality but are at their best when combined with the potential of design. This led to the idea of involving some of the leading producers of high-end ceramic tiles in the organisation of exhibition events inspired by play, free time and a human-scale city, themes that increasingly coming to the attention of citizens and public administrations.

The excellence of Italian ceramic is represented by seven Confindustria Ceramica member companies: Casalgrande Padana, which commissioned Studio 5+1 AA to create “Diamante Magico”; Ceramiche Coem which is showcasing “Crystaltile” by Giacomo Sanna; Cooperativa Ceramica di Imola with “Prospettive Magiche” by Massimiliano Raggi; Etruria design, which is presenting “Tappeto Volante” by S.O.S.; Mapei, which commissioned Matteo Beraldi to create “Labyrinth”; Marazzi, which made “Cerlabirintino” to a project by Massimiliano Pescio; and Simas, which asked the Terri Pecora design firm to develop “Kid at earth”.
This wide-ranging initiative brings together manufacturers of ceramic tiles, bathroom furnishings and installation products.

The event, coordinated by Aldo Colonetti and featuring exhibit design by Franco Origoni using historic images by the great Italian illustrator Emanuele Luzzati, is an opportunity for companies to showcase their most original and innovative products. And at a time of radical transformation of the ceramic market, it is also an important testbed for the development of a new approach to the conception, design and manufacture of ceramic – an approach that centres on originality, just like the world of children.
