British fashion on show in Milan
On the occasion of Women’s fashion week, the British Consulate-General proposes, for the first time, British Fashion in Milan, an exhibition of British designers and brands of clothing and accessories.

The project intends to promote British Heritage and women’s fashion brands already established or still to be discovered in Italy. From Aquascutum, iconic brand of British style, to the work of contemporary designers - Julien MacDonald, Tristan Webber, Jenny Packham, Clements Ribeiro, Temperley, Robert Cary-Williams, Antoni & Alison, Tata Naka, Bora Aksu, Frost French and more – who in London have met with particular success, but in Italy are known only to those in the sector.

The exhibition will be furnished with design objects and furnishing signed by important British designers, such as Ross Lovegrove, James Irvine, Perry King, John Bennet, who work with prime Italian furnishing and lighting companies.

A special section of the exhibition will host the works of 10 jewellery designers who will represent in Milan the contemporary jewellery festival “Brilliantly Birmingham”, an initiative promoted by the Birmingham City Council to celebrate the 30th anniversaryof the Milan-Birmingham twinning.

From Mary Quant to John Galliano
The exhibition at the Triennale museum in Milan is completed by a section dedicated to the history of British fashion over the last 50 years. On show are original garments from the Fashion and Textile Museum in London and signed by legendary names in British Fashion, from Zandra Rhodes (founder of the museum) and Mary Quant to Ossie Clark and Vivienne Westwood, from Paul Smith to John Galliano, to Sophia Kokosalaki.

A city tour for British Fashion
The British Fashion in Milan project will not remain enclosed in the Triennale, but will involve the whole of Milan with a guided circuit of visits to the fashion exhibitions (Milanovendemoda, NeoZone, Cloudnine and White), to the shops and boutiques which sell British brands, to the showrooms which display British collections.A special guide (British Fashion in Milan Guide) to the British Fashion Tour will list the events and the calendar of catwalk shows.Furthermore, all the locations involved will be indicated with a special British Fashion Tour sticker.

MINI and British Fashion in Milan

MINI is a brand with deep British roots. From August 1959, when the vehiclewas realised by the pen of Sir Alec Issigonis, to September 2000, when the new MINI was presented at the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris, a great deal has changed in the fields of technology, of creative language and of everyday life.Despite this, the authentic “made by BMW Group” heir maintains the chic and at the same time plucky, sporty image of the historic Mini. It exalts the performance and fun-to-drive element offered by the original. And despite the completely renewed design, comfort, safety and quality, it remains an icon of British Style.

This is why on the occasion of women’s fashion week, MINI is participating in the British Fashion in Milan exhibition as main sponsor and official car to the project.
